Jennifer Yu

2019 U.S. Women’s Chess Champion!

Jennifer was born in Ithaca, New York and started playing chess in first grade, attending an after-school chess club. She wanted to continue her interest and asked her parents to find a coach. This simple request launched Jennifer Yu’s chess career. Her parents took her to group chess lessons and tournaments for kids.

Then in October in 2014 in Durban, South Africa, 12-year-old Jennifer Yu became the first American girl in 27 years to win a title at the World Youth Chess Championship, going undefeated in 11 matches.

Now at 17 years old, she is the 2019 U.S. Women’s Chess Champion!
