On October 7, 2023, Hamas invaded Israel, murdering 1,200 innocent Jewish civilians and capturing more than 200 Jewish hostages, including children and the elderly.
Among the hostages was 9-year-old Ohad, his mother, grandmother and grandfather.
Hamas held Ohad hostage for 7 weeks, and he celebrated his 9-year-old birthday in captivity on October 29th.
Ohad Freed!
Hamas captured the fourth-grader along with his mother and grandparents during a holiday visit to see his grandparents and uncle in the kibbutz of Nir Oz along the border with Gaza. At the time of the attack, Ohad was visiting the kibbutz from his home in the central Israeli city of Kfar Saba.
Hamas murdered Ohad’s beloved uncle in the attack. Ohad, his mom and grandma disappeared with the only thread of information about them coming from a cellphone signal traced to Gaza.
Seven weeks later, on Friday, November 24, in a brokered cease-fire Israeli hostage/Palestinian prisoner exchange, Hamas freed Ohad, his mother, grandmother along with other hostages in exchange for Palestinian felons held in Israeli prisons.
The whereabout and wellbeing of Ohad’s grandfather is unknown.
