In November 2019, Abhi became the youngest International Master (IM) in the history of chess at the age of 10 years, 9 months and 3 days–breaking Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa’s world youngest IM record of 10 years and 10 months by 17 days!

Abhimanyu Mishra is now the youngest IM in the history of the world.

Short-Term and Long-Term Goals

Abhimanyu Mishra openly declared his short-term goal is to break Sergey Karjakin’s world youngest Grandmaster record! Sergey Karjakin became the youngest Grandmaster in the world at 12 years 7 months old in 2002–a record that still stands today.

Abhi keeps in mind that he became an International Master at 10 years, 9 months and 3 days, whereas Sergey Karjakin did not become an International Master until he was age 11 years and 11 months.

Abhi’s long-term goal is to become the World Chess Champion one day.
