Good Evening, Mr. Bain.
I noticed three mistakes regarding a Web site URL in relationship to a puzzle which then seems to have an incorrect outcome. If you are already aware of these issues then please disregard the following:
Item 1: The following link: https://www.chessforstudents.com/back-rank-combinations-diagram-62-white-checkmates-in-2-moves/ references checkmates for 2 moves.
Item 2: However, the main chessboard displayed on that page is for the ‘BACK RANK COMBOS Diagram 62 – White checkmates in 3 moves’. FEN as follows: 1r1r3k/1p3ppb/p1p4p/2P5/P7/1q6/4QPPP/3RR1K1 w – – 0 1
Item 3: Then shows a checkmate in 3 moves (please see below – however, Black can play 3…Bg8 and block White’s Check).
Shown further down on the aforementioned web page is the ‘Answer – Diagram 62’:
1. Rxd8+ Rxd8
2. Qe8+ Rxe8
3. Rxe8# (is not checkmate) Bg8 (blocks check)
Hoping that these are easy corrections. Since I do not have the actual tactics workbook it may be that this puzzle doesn’t exist in the actual workbook in which case then only the Web Page(s) would need to be corrected.
In closing I want you to know that I really like your booklets – all of my students have benefited from these reference materials – and our tournament results have shown it! Thank you for your time, Mr. Bain. -Gregg.
Thank you Gregg Jones, for your information.
The black King belongs on g8 as it is in the workbook, Chess Tactics For Students. The correction was easy for the online blog post.
