On October 8-21, 2021, all eyes in the chess world will be on 23-year-old Aleksandra Goryachkina, who will be the only woman competing in the Open Section of the 74th annual Russian Chess Championships taking place in Ufa, Russia.


Aleksandra Forgoes Women’s Prize & Title

Aleksandra, the second highest rated woman in the world will forgo competing in the 71st Russian Women’s Chess Championship with a prize fund of 4 million rubles ($55,000.00 USD) .

Instead, she will compete in the Open Section of the 74th annual Russian Chess Championships where the prize fund is 7 million rubles ($96,000.00 USD)!


Opportunity to Improve Rating

Aleksandra will be the lowest rated player in the Open Section, but not by much!

Match days are October 9-14 and October 16-20.

The rest day is on October 15th.

The games will start at 3 PM local time.

Russia’s Aleksandra Goryachkina, born in Orsk, Russia on September 28, 1998, is now 23 years old.

She is a Grandmaster and two-time Russian Women’s Chess Champion. She also twice won the World Girls Under-20 Chess Championship.

She is on the rise and may well soon be the world’s highest rated women and the next Women’s World Chess Champion!

Playing in the Open Section of the 74th annual 2021 Russian Chess Championships is certainly a step in the right direction.
